This is the story of Four. Going into his childhood and his choosing Dauntless. There are also several chapters at the end from his point of view for Divergent.
This book was good, but I didn't think it was as good as the original three books.

Katie is in the state system. Her father who knows... And her mom is in prison. Katie is a teenager and just trying to fly under the radar until she can get out on her own. Katie feels like she'll be sent back very quickly and vows not to become attached. She puts on her tough girl act, even getting into trouble.

This is the second of the Enders Game series. Until Ender entered the story, it didn't hold my attention.
Three thousand years after Ender killed the buggars, he is a Speaker for the Dead and a teacher. As he and his sister traveled the universe at light speed, they did not age. Now he's been called to a world twenty two light years away. For the first time Valentine will not go as she is about to have her first child. So, Ender says goodbye knowing he won't age but by the time he arrives she will be a lot older and he may never see her again. However Ender has to go and tell the story, get to know the piggies and hopefully find a hope for the beggar he saved.

This story was kinda slow going for me, couldn't hold me for long.

A quick and fast read. Wes Holden is a Colonel in the Army Special Ops. He is home with his wife and small son, and working with the Drs for his PTSD from being held captive. At his checkup he tells his wife to go ahead and go to the commissary. While at the appt they hear an explosion. Wes takes off only to discover that a car bomb has destroyed the commissary. He starts looking for his family only to find out they were killed. This sends him over the edge. After a year and no change in his condition he is released to his step brother-someone he has never gotten along with. Wes had started to come out of his fog, but he choose to pretend so that he could be released. Once out, he realizes his step-brother is only after his paycheck. This is a murder mystery set in the future. I had some trouble getting into the story and with the names of our devices in the future.
Eve Dallas is with the police department in New York. Her husband Roarke is a wealthy businessman. Both of them had troubled childhoods with abuse and were saved from the system. Roarke has bought an old building that he plans to use as a home for children. While starting the demolition they come across 2 skeletons behind a wall. Eve arrives and a team to search the building and in all 12 bodies are found. Now to figure out who they are and who killed them. They were killed 15 years ago, after a brother and sister Nash and Philadelphia Jones had moved to a new building. They were running a home for unwanted children.
Were they part of it?

COLD SNAP-a Lucy Kincaid story by Allison Brennan
A first read of a story by Allison, and I will continue to read her books. Even though I have not read the stories leading up to this one-that will not stop me from reading those.
The Kincaid family has 7 grown children, all of which are in law enforcement of some sort.
From FBI to a mercenary. Their father was career military and their mother is Cuban.
The children are all headed to their folks to spend Christmas, the first time they will all be together in some time. The book is broken up into 3 stories.
The first story has Patrick stopping to check on a family friend and has him finding love for the first time since he woke up from his 2 year coma. As well as involved in investigating a missing teenager which leads to human trafficking.
Then Lucy and and her boyfriend and her brother Dillion and his wife Kate are stranded in Denver because of a blizzard. They end up helping to investigate 3 murders.
And, finally the last story is Carina is taken hostage and the attempt to stop further murders.
All three stories tie in together.

Another great story by Belva. A quick read, I read it in two days.
This follows the Stern family, a Jewish family from New York. They have 4 grown children, 3 sons and a daughter and two granddaughters. The story mainly follows the parents Theo and Iris and their daughter Laura and her husband Robby and daughter Katie.
It tells the story of young love during the Vietnam War and the ups and downs that follow their marriage. Robby is going to be an archaeologist and is in the last year of college when the draft happens. His number is one that assures he will be called up following graduation. However they find a loophole, if he is about to be or is a father. So, after graduation and their marriage they quit being so careful and ending expecting. Robby is going on a dig with a renowned archaeologist who becomes his mentor and whom he will study under while completing his doctorate. Unfortunately y
Things don't go as planned. After her fathers heart attack and Robby being fired from his teaching job they relocate back to New York, near her family.
Can Robby survive working at the museum, the owner of which is a friend of his brother in law? What happens when Laura starts a catering business?

The winter arts festival is almost here. The Warner Pier, Michigan town hopes this will bring in tourist to the town and money to their business. They have a small full time resident population. The guy is drunk and trying to come on to Lee so she pulls off the highway and leaves him in a motel. However, he is murdered that night. Lee and Joe are both suspects. This is in part a period story, which I usually don't like. But, this one was great.
Granny Dan as she was called was a roller skating, cookie baking grandmother. But, she was also a prima ballerina as a younger woman in Russia. After her mother died, she was sent to a live in ballerina school in St Petersburg, at the age of seven. Her father and four older brothers were all in the military and unable to care for her on a daily basis. She worked her way up and became one of their star ballerinas. She came to know the Czar and his family. Then the revolution hits and she finally leaves for America.
What will happen? Will she continue to dance?

SAVE ME by Lisa Scottoline
This is a great story and well worth the read. It covers so much, bullying, a mystery and romance.
Rose and Leo and their children Melly and John move to a small town. Melly is enrolled in a school that has just opened. Rose is a volunteer lunch room parent and witnesses Melly being bullied. She is talking to the three girls when there is an explosion. After coming to she has to decide whether to get the three girls to safety or go after Melly who has run to the bathroom close to where the explosion took place. She opts to get the three girls out first as they are closest to her, she gets them to the hallway where they can join other children heading outside with a teacher manning the doorway. She then has to get to Melly. She is able to reach her but she has suffered smoke inhalation. After she gets her out and they end up at the hospital she is told that one of the three girls has not been found.
Bad goes to worse as everyone jumps to conclusions about what happened.
Things do not add up and Rose starts to do some investigating…

Another great book by Danielle.
Quinn had lost his wife Jane and his daughter would barely speak to him. So, he decides to charter a yacht and sail for several months. While aboard he reads the journals his wife had written, feeling even more guilty for being away so much of the time building his empire. He returns home to San Francisco, and having decided to sell their home starts the long hard work of sifting through a lifetime of belongings. On New Years Eve a terrible storm blows through and literally blows down tress and wrecks all sorts of havoc. He meets his next door neighbor while assessing the damage. He needs roof work as well as other work done to repair the damage. After having no luck finding a contractor he calls one of the referrals and Jack is able to come and look at the damage. It turns out to be just what they all needed. Quinn finds something to help take his mind off of Jane, Jack finds friends, and a teacher in Quinn and Maggie the next door neighbor finds a reason to live again.
All the while Quinn is having a sailboat built that will allow him to sail for the remainder of his life.

Have you ever wanted to go back in time to high school? This story will transport you back. It does read by people instead of chapters i.e. Jake or Hobby.
This is a story about a group of people that live on Nantucket. These are people that live there year round. You have Zoe Alistair and her twins Penny and Hobby who are 17. Then there is Jordan and Ava Randolph and their 17 year old son Jake. As well as Al and Lynne Castle their older two sons are away at college and Demeter is their 17 year old daughter. These are the main families of this story. The kids met the first day of preschool. Jake loved Penny ever since. Now they are all Juniors in high school, Penny has an amazing singing voice, Hobby is a star athlete, Jake starred alongside Penny in the school musicals and Demeter was around but not really part of any group. On the day of graduation for the senior class most of the families and kids made the rounds to different graduation parties. The gang included after all next year they would be graduating. After hitting up some parties they end up at a party on the beach. There is drinking but Penny never drinks. Before leaving Demeter and Penny head up into the dunes and when they return Penny is in a state. She demands to drive and ends up crashing the car. Penny dies, Hobby is in a coma with multiple broken bones, Jake and Demeter are pretty much not hurt. The police discover a bottle of alcohol in Demeter's purse.
What is going to happen? Jakes mother has been asking to return to her native Australia, Demeter continues drinking and everyone still wonders what set Penny off.

The fourth book in the Harry Potter series. This is a long book, 734 pages.
Harry is allowed to go to the Weasley's for the last bit of summer. Mr. Weasley, his children along with Harry and Hermione go to the Quidditch World Cup. With some problems accruing afterward, the Ministry of Magic goes into long hours to combat the problems.
Once back at school, they learn that there is to be a Triwizard Tournament, but due to the dangerous nature of the tasks; only students 17 and older can apply. Two other schools will be coming to Hogwarts for the school year so that a student of theirs can participate. On the day the champions are announced, somehow there end up being four instead of three and Harry is one of them.
Add to the regular schoolwork, the getting ready for the tournament and staying alive during them. He also has been having episodes where his scar is extremely painful. Is it because He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is around.... If so, Harry could be in danger. Can Sirius his godfather help him?

While waiting for their mom at the art gallery, they end up drawing a copy of a painting and somehow they end up in the painting swimming with the boy in the picture. Now they've done it, their mom hurries them home. Where she rushes to get them packed and out the door. Unfortunately, they are not quick enough and people show up banging on the door. They managed to escape and end up heading to Scotland and a grandfather they do not remember. At their grandfathers estate, which is a former abbey; they learn about Guardians and Animares. Also, they discover their mom is an Animare and their father was a Guardian. These two groups of special people were never to have children because of the combining of the powers. A first read for me of her work. I did finish the book, however it was a bit tedious for me.
Caroline has taken her son Eric and moved home to Tall Pines Plantation in South Carolina following her divorce. Also, living on the plantation are her brother Trip and his girlfriend Rusty and Millie and Mr. Jenkins who are long time servants. Caroline is in the main plantation home and the others have homes on the property. The story is written from Caroline's point of view including her thoughts. A serious of catastrophes occur including her sister in law's drunkenness and disorderly conduct causing a return to a clinic for alcoholism.
Trip has 4 daughters, Amelia who is a Jr at college, Belle a senior in high school, Linnie a Junior and Chloe 8 years old. Other than Amelia the others have issues that need to be dealt with.

This book jumps back and forth between the two stories, with a lot of twists and turns. Ava becomes interested in local history and begins to research it, unaware of what she may uncover. She is also trying to find out about Matthew's first wife.
I don't really like books that jump back and forth like this one did, however I did finish the book and if that doesn't bother you, you may enjoy it.

SURRENDER BAY-a Nantucket Love Story by Denise Hunter
This is a first time read of one of Denise's books. I enjoyed it.
Samantha-Sam and Landon grew up a little New England Island, living right on the ocean. They were best friends and always together. Even though they lived 2 doors apart, their childhoods were total opposites. Landon had a loving family including a brother Bailey. Sam's dad died when she was young and her mother remarried Emmett. Then one day Sam's mother took the boat and all her things except for Sam and left. She never came back. Emmett had adopted Sam at this point. Emmett was a drunk and a hard task master-making Sam do all the work. He also started locking her in her closet. She never told anyone because he told her it was her fault.
Landon goes off to college and Sam leaves the island after Landon's brother dies. Years later Sam gets a letter informing her that Emmett has died and left her the cottage. Knowing that ocean front property would fetch a lot of money therefore securing her and her daughter Caden's future, she returns to the island to get the house ready to be sold. This is not easy as she is bringing secrets. The story also has references to God.
