This is Nora Roberts 200th novel. I think this is the best book by her, that I have read. It hooked me the first page. The only downside was the language. You have murder, romance, witness protection and more all rolled up into 1 story.
Elizabeth Fitch is the only child of Dr Susan Fitch, the chief of surgery at a Chicago hospital. Her mother choose her child's biological father using a long list of requirements. She was also very controlling and there was no mother child bonding.
At 16 Elizabeth was already in pre med at Havard-her mothers wishes. She rebels when her mother goes to a medical conference and becomes involved in a whole chain of events out of her control.
Including witnessing a murder by a Russian mob, going into witness protection and seeing the first two people to truly care about her murdered.
After being on the run and moving frequently, she settles in a small town in Arkansas.
